ASK THE CHIEF
Question:
Hello chief, I am at this time on active duty with the NJNG up on Ft. Dix I will be off In Jan. and I'm looking to land a career in Law enforcement in NJ I would like to know if you could point me in the right direction to finding my goal. I'm also asking if your department is hiring at this time. When you get time please contact me back so I may know thank you for your time.
Answer:
Unfortunately, Lumberton Township is not currently hiring. If you would like, you may mail your resume' to:
Lumberton Township Police Department
35 Municipal Drive
Lumberton, NJ 08048
Attn: Chief Smith
I would be happy to keep your resume' on file and notify you when any openings occur.
You may also want to contact the county police academies individually. Most offer what is known as an "Alternate Routes" program. You may be able to apply directly to the police academy and receive all of your police training prior to being hired. This is attractive to potential employers, as they do not have to pay for your training, so they can hire you at a substantial savings.

Question:
Chief,
Has anyone reported hearing 'gunshot' like sounds coming off of Landing Road very early in the morning? I am in my home and hearing them this morning (since about 4 am). But sometimes when I am riding my bike along Landing Road around 6:00 am (by the auctioneer) I hear them too. Just wondering.
Response:
Dear Resident,
The noise you hear is an audible device (most often a propane gas "cannon") used by farmers to deter birds from eating their crops or seed. They are similar to a blank gun and are generally set to go off at specific time intervals and are made to sound like gunshots- which scare the birds and other animals from the area.

Question:
Hello Chief,
I am a police officer with (a Pennsylvania Police Department) and was wondering if you were hiring for lateral transfers. I am certified through PA but according to NJ Police Training Commission, I would be eligible for a waiver in NJ since I have not passed a 3 year time from which I graduate from the (Pennsylvania police academy).
Thank you
Response:
Unfortunately, we are not in the position to hire at this time. Hiring someone on a lateral transfer with NJ Police Training Commission waivers is something we would consider, however. If you would like to forward a copy of your resume' to me, I would be happy to keep it on file and notify you of any openings we have in the future.
Thank you for your interest,
Chief Smith
