THURSDAY, MAY 20, 2021, 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PMLumberton Township, in conjunction with the Office of Emergency Management, has installed and is operationalizing a new Public Outdoor Audible Warning System (POAWS) for the purposes of advanced warning of hazards and threats to life and property within Lumberton. POAWS will be utilized during times of imminent and extraordinary emergency, including high-water flooding, tornados and extreme winds, technological disasters and civil unrest.

The system is located on the site of the Ridgeway Gaun Building, 602 Main Street and consists of an electronic audible device capable of various tone combinations followed by pre-recorded messages describing the emergency. The tone/message group will be repeated up to three times and can be heard over a distance of approximately 1.5 miles. Residents within the useable notification range of the system include the downtown Lumberton Village area, Holly Brook, Meadowbrook/Glenwood, Maple Grove, Bobby’s Run, Meadow Glen/Waverly/Little Bobby’s Run, Acacia Manor, Country Village, Coventry Glen, Medford Leas and Maple Grove.

On Thursday, May 20 2021, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, testing of this warning system will occur. THESE ARE ONLY TESTS AND NOT INDICATIONS OF ACTUAL EMERGENCIES. Please take note of the warning sounds for future reference and preparedness. There is no response action required on your part. These tests will help determine the readiness of the system for use in actual emergencies, and will occur periodically to ensure system reliability.

Please notify family members and neighbors about this test on Thursday, May 20, and share on social media. The Office of Emergency Management will continue to share the message throughout the week so as to prepare residents and lessen anxiety about the warning system. We thank you for your continued support of our readiness programs and for helping to keep Lumberton safe.
